California Legal Update: Is Your Boss Entitled to Your Social Media Passwords?

Two privacy bills have been signed by California Gov. Jerry Brown making it illegal for employers and colleges to demand access to social media accounts.

AB1844 prohibits employers from demanding user names and passwords from employees and job applicants, but does not apply to passwords or information used on employer-issued electronic devices. SB1349 makes it illegal for colleges and universities to demand social media user names and passwords from students and prospective students.

Do you agree or disagree with these two new bills?
